This telephone resulted in the modification of the No. 1 or No. 131MW (Swedish (Commonwealth) Ericsson) during the war years when telephones were hard to obtain. As the damaged/faulty telephones were returned to the PMG workshops, the ornate sections were removed and the bells placed inside the remaining section of the cabinet. Some minor modifications were also included in the "remake" (the circuitry was modified to prevent bell tinkle) which allowed the telephone to be used under varying signalling conditions. The resultant telephone is known as a tucked telephone.
