Mitel
Networks 5200 IP Desktop Portfolio
The Mitel
Networks 5200 family of IP telephones represents an evolution in functionality,
ergonomics and style at the desktop. Through the introduction of these new
phones the user experience is enhanced with a new 'look and feel' that
elevates the power of the IP desktop devices to a new level. Through extensive
customer dialogue and user focus groups a new handset design was implemented and
combined with improved display contrast and better tactile button response.
With these new
additions, the Mitel Networks IP desktop portfolio becomes the broadest in the
industry, with devices and peripherals to meet all levels of business. Working
across the Mitel Networks 3100 and 3300 Integrated Communications Platforms (ICP)
the addition of these new IP phones provides unparalleled choice and flexibility
to the user.
The Mitel Networks portfolio of desktop IP devices and applications
is, quite simply, the most comprehensive on the market today. This should
not be a surprise as we have close to three decades of experience and expertise
in enterprise voice communications unlike most suppliers of Voice-over-IP.
Ours is
the only complete portfolio of desktop IP devices that provide feature access
and functionality superior to today's most sophisticated digital business
telephones. Features include superior voice quality, ergonomic design and
intuitive access to advanced IP applications, call control features and network
services. They respond to the diverse needs of users across the entire
enterprise - from the shop floor, storefront, to the front desk, corner office,
contact centre and meeting room. Put the power of IP in the hands of your users
today, with Mitel Networks IP Desktop.
Our
intent in the design of the restyled sets is to offer elegant desktop appliances
with an immediate impression of uncompromising quality. The 5200 IP Phone family
reflects the fresh, new image that Mitel is projecting through its new marketing
campaigns and reinforces the aim to be a more user centric company (It's about
you!). These programmes will lead to improved brand recognition, helping you and
Mitel to succeed in today's market.
Features and Benefits
At the
entry level, the 5201 and 5205 IP phones provide cost-effective IP telephony
with simplified feature access. For users with enhanced needs the dual-port 5215
and 5220 IP Phones provide access to rich telephony features with enhanced
capabilities such as PDA integration and IP audio conference unit support. For
the knowledge worker, Mitel Networks offers the award-winning 5230 IP appliance,
whereby users dock an HP iPAQ directly into the phone, enabling
enhanced call handling and location transparency within the network. Rounding
out the portfolio is the award-winning 5240 IP Appliance, a web-enabled IP phone
that provides an integrated HTML browser and one-touch access to network-based
services and features. Mitel Networks 5200 series IP phones are compatible with
the 3100 ICP and 3300 ICP systems.
For
businesses that rely on communications, the Mitel Networks 5201 IP Phone and
Mitel Networks 5205 IP Phone introduce a family of next generation fully
featured IP telephone sets. These two single-port IP Phones provide Mitel
Networks IP Platform users with easy to use, flexible, business telephone sets
and benefit from a wide range of peripheral equipment, including messaging,
voice mail and other computer telephony applications. Unlike other IP telephony
devices, the Mitel Networks 5200 series IP Phones can access advanced system
features at the desktop in both the Corporate and Small Office environment,
having the capability of being upgraded with new features and functionality as
and when available. They are designed to work on the Mitel Networks 3100 and
3300 ICP solutions.
Mitel Networks 5201 IP
Phone
One of the things that sells voice in today's
world is clearly price. Low-end devices that offer good connectivity and the
most basic of features are 'the norm' where VoIP is needed today. The Mitel
Networks 5201 IP phone provides just that - a very inexpensive desktop IP
solution. The 5201 IP Phone is a low cost, single port set. It is an IP
equivalent of a basic POTS phone. Ideal uses for this phone would be - in common
areas such as lobbies or waiting areas, or manufacturing or warehouse areas that
do not require a PC to be connected to the phone.
Mitel Networks 5205 IP
Phone
While the
Mitel Networks 5205 IP Phone will work across both the Mitel Networks 3100 and
3300 IP Platforms, the 5205 IP Phone is principally a 'key set' designed and
introduced primarily to meet those needs. The 5205 IP Phone is a low cost,
single port, multi-line set with backlit display. It has 16 Programmable
Feature/Line Appearance Keys when used on 3100 ICP or 13 Programmable Keys/Line
Appearances when used on 3300 ICP (plus 3 fixed keys).
Mitel
Networks 5215 IP Phone
Mitel has
introduced hands free speakerphone capability and a new backlit display to the
5215 IP Phone. This provides a lower price point for hands free functionality
for competitive bids. Our customers will be pleased that the quality hands free
audio that they are used to is now available on another phone in the family.
The 5215 IP Phone is a dual-port IP telephone
with programmable function keys, a 20-character backlit display and a built-in
speaker with half-duplex hands free operation. It is an ideal choice for users
requiring access to more sophisticated system features such as technical support
staff, office workers, sales and customer service departments. Like all Mitel
Networks IP telephones and devices, the 5215 IP Phone can be easily programmed
and personalised with a web browser-based configuration tool. It is an ideal
choice for customer-facing communications requirements and works on our 3100 and
3300 ICPs.
Mitel Networks 5220 IP
Phone
The 5220 IP
Phone is a full function, multi-line, backlit display, business telephone. The
5220 is a hands free speakerphone with context-sensitive soft keys delivering
users fast and easy access to the full features/functionality of Mitel Networks
3300 and 3100 ICP telephone systems. It is designed for any user within the
enterprise that requires information about calls they handle - combined with
user-programmable access to advanced telephone system features. It is ideal for
users who must change their telephone feature set to match their changing needs
- especially managers and professionals who may travel frequently, are often
away from their desk and frequently participate in conference calls. The 5220 IP
Phone is also ideal for contact centre/help desk agents.
Mitel Networks 5230 IP
Appliance
The Mitel Networks
5230 IP Appliance combines the power of IP telephony with personal digital
assistant (PDA) technology to provide users with unprecedented levels of access,
flexibility and personal control over business communications. Users simply
'dock' their PDA into the 5230 IP Appliance for seamless, hot-synched access
to any application on the IP network, including new Windows CE-based desktop
tools. They can transfer their personal profile and preferences to any 5230 IP
Appliance on the network by simply dropping their PDA into the docking cradle.
It's the ultimate in control and location transparency and it will change the
way people work.
The 5230 IP
Appliance is targeted towards the mobile workforce who regularly use PDAs to
store and transfer information. This unique Desktop device supports users who
rely heavily on the PDA for personal information management.
The 5230 IP
Appliance was introduced a month ahead of the remainder the 'family'. It is
described in detail in - EM002472 5230 IP Appliance EMEA CIB.
Mitel Networks 5240 IP
Appliance
For an office
power user or executive, who needs constant access to information in real and
non-real time, the Mitel Networks 5240 is an Internet Appliance that
intelligently and easily allows an end user to not only use the standard
telephony features, but also browse and retrieve voice and data applications.
Unlike the current breed of next generation IP phones, our product goes beyond
basic telephony features to link the user to information.
The ideal customer for the 5240 is one who is
ready to invest in IP telephony and who requires access to real time information
that is connected to calling party information, or who wants more than a typical
high-end telephone set. Executives and professionals will benefit from the true
value of IP, the integrated applications - which are delivered on our new 5240
IP Appliance.
IP Appliances from
Mitel Networks are designed to derive the maximum value from the IP
architecture, through the integration of sets, systems and applications.
The
following matrix of the new 5200 IP Family provides an 'at a glance' summary
of the 5200 range features and functionality; this is followed by detailed

5412 & 5448 IP Programmable Key Modules (for the 5220 IP Phone)
Mitel
Networks has redesigned the 12 and 48 button Programmable Key Modules (PKMs)
with the same gentle concave curve and sophisticated styling as the 5200 Series
IP Phones. In addition, there is a new IP PKM Interface Module designed
specifically to integrate into the back of the new 5220 IP Phone. The new model
numbers are - the 5412 which is a 12-Button IP PKM and the 5448 which is a
48-Button IP PKM.
The Mitel
Networks 5412 IP Programmable Key Module is a device providing 12 additional
personal keys for Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone. The Mitel Networks 5448 IP
Programmable Key Module is a device providing 48 additional personal keys for
Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone. Each personal key on the 5412 IP PKM and 5448 IP
PKM can be programmed as a feature key, a Direct Station Select (DSS) key, a
speed call key, or as a line appearance key.
Both
devices have the same functionality, however the user has a choice between
smaller (12 button) or larger (48 button) IP PKM unit, depending on their
personal needs. Both PKMs attach to the 5220 IP Phone via the modular cable and
a 5422 IP PKM Interface Module which attached to the back of the 5220 IP Phone.
Both IP PKMs can be directly attached to the 5220 IP Phone so that it moves as a
single device.
Up to two
5448 IP PKMs can be attached to the 3300 ICP providing 96 additional keys.
Powering
Options
Requires
24VDC power adapter, purchased separately. The same, single, 24VDC Power Adapter
will power all the devices - the 5220 IP Phone and a 5412 PKM or a 5220 IP Phone
with up to two 5448 PKMs.
5310 IP Conference Unit
The 5310 IP
Conference Units that are available on the 5020 IP Phone now have a new restyled
side control unit that connects to the new 5220 IP Phone and uses the same
acoustically superior saucer (with beam-forming). The 5310 IP Conference Units
enhance the functionality of Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone to deliver superior
voice conference functionality to typical boardrooms or smaller private office.
Best performance is achieved in rooms of up to 20' x 30'.
Superior
Quality Conferencing in Any Boardroom
The 5310 IP
Conference Unit is a full duplex IP conferencing unit designed for optimal use
in any meeting room up to 20' x 30' that is equipped with a Mitel Networks
5220 IP Phone. The 5310 IP Conference Unit features Mitel Networks exclusive
beam-forming array technology that automatically focuses the unit's microphone
on individual speakers to eliminate background noise and side conversations. It
can also be set to 'presentation' mode to focus exclusively on one key
speaker. Combined with built-in noise reduction, automatic gain control and full
duplex operation, this technology supports natural conversations and
collaboration without the distractions.
Superior
voice quality at both ends of conversation
-
Combines beam
forming array technology, noise reduction and automatic gain technology to focus
microphone beam on lead speaker and eliminate background noise and side
conversations
-
Presentation Mode
allows the microphone beam to be fixed on one speaker, allowing the parties on
the other end of the conversation to easily follow the presentation without
interruptions from side conversations and background noise.
-
Full Duplex
operation for a more natural conversation, with conference participants being
able to contribute to conversation at any time, without cutting into each other
-
Single LAN drop to
the conference room, no separate analogue
port required
- Simple to install
(plugs into the adapted Headset Port and power port of the Mitel Networks 5220
IP Phone)
Simple
to use:
-
Good ergonomics
and user-friendly interface
-
Control Unit
attached to the side of the 5220 IP Phone and additional (optional) wired Remote
Control with duplicate controls, for ease of use in situations when the speaker
unit and the telephone set are on two different tables.
-
Easily accessible
RJ45 LAN on the 5310 IP Conference phone makes it easier to plug in that
additional IP device (i.e. laptop to access the presentation or make notes from
the conference)
Direction Indicators
Integrated LED
direction indicators provide conference participants visual confirmation that
the unit is receiving their voice. These are especially useful in the round
table discussions and other unstructured sessions where the feedback of
participants is fully required.
Direction
Indicators allow each person at the table to receive visual confirmation that
their voice has been registered with the unit (corresponding LED will be turned
on when the beam receives participant's voice)
Remote
Control
Optional wired
remote control unit for situations where the IP Boardroom Conference Unit and
the 5220 IP Phone are on different tables.
Voice
QoS and Compression Support
Supports
802.1p/q for quality of service and supports both G.729 andG.711 compression.
Powering
Options
Requires
24VDC power adapter - purchased separately. The same, single, 24VDC Power
Adapter will power all the devices - the 5220 IP Phone plus the conference unit.
Colours
5310
Saucer available in 2 colours: Night Sky (Dark Grey Matte) and Silver Ghost
(Metallic Silver). The 5310 Restyled Side Control that attaches to 5220 IP Phone
is only available in Dark Grey.
Configuration Information
Platform
Requirements:
The
Minimum System Software level required to support the new 5200 Series IP Phone,
Appliances and Peripherals is for the 3300 ICP - Release 3.3 and for the 3100
ICP - Release 4.0.
Multiple
Powering Options
Multiple
powering options are available for the IP Desktop, giving the user more choice
and ensuring Mitel Networks IP sets and peripherals are ready for the industry
changes in powering the desktop:
Ethernet/AC
Power Wall Adapter:
Ideal for situations where it is not
practical to make significant changes to the network or where back up power is
not important to the user. This optional unit has two sockets, one un-powered LAN
input; one powered LAN output and plugs into an AC Power source. Permits one
wire to the desktop - simplicity.
AC
Wall Power Adapter:
Ideal for situations where it is not
practical to make significant changes to the network and AC power is readily
available at each desktop. Results in two wires to the desktop.
Spare
Pair Power: (based on IEEE 802.3af standard)
This powering option uses the spare
pairs of wires of the Ethernet cable (2 out of the 4 pairs, which are not used
for signalling). The advantage of this option comes from the fact that it is
easy to add it into the existing network and selectively power devices. However,
it tends to be more expensive per port than power adapter option, because you
also need separate power generating equipment.
Signal
Pair/Phantom Feed: (based on IEEE
802.3af standard)
This powering option sends power on
the same pairs of wires that are used for signalling. This may require
replacement of non-powered switches and hubs with powered devices therefore this
power option may be more cost efficient for new installations. It saves one port
per user and it does not require separate power generating equipment, which is
normally required for spare pair option.
3300
ICP Power Dongle (Cisco-Compliant):
The 3300 Mitel Power Dongle (P/N
50002922 for a 10 Pack) is Cisco compliant. The 3300 ICP now allows Mitel IP
Phones (5201, 5205, 5215, 5220, 5230 & 5240) to be powered from specific
Cisco equipment. This can improve the cost effectiveness of a Mitel solution for
a customer who has already invested in a powered Cisco data infrastructure by
utilising the Cisco infrastructure to deliver power to the desktop devices.
3300
ICP PowerDsine 24-Port Power over LAN Hub:
This unit (P/N PD-6024/AC) is IEEE
802.3af compliant and does not require power dongles to power Mitel Networks IP
phones. The benefits of the new hub are that it ensures uninterrupted network
operation by providing a "power safe" path to the user. It utilises an
advanced discovery process to detect Power over LAN enabled terminals and
protect legacy endpoints, it supplies an affordable connectivity solution for
any Ethernet terminal, it provides tools for battery and main power management
and it furnishes an easy and cost-effective installation with fewer cables and
outlets.
To
permit maximum flexibility Power Adapters are NOT included with any of
the 5200 IP Phones, Appliances, or Peripherals to permit different powering
options available and because of the global powering requirements. Power
Adapters must be ordered separately as required. Please refer to the Powering
Options Table for power requirements.

Questions & Answers
Are
there Multi-Language versions of the new 5200 IP Phones? Are there separate part
numbers?
Yes. Two
packaged versions of each phone exist - an English/French version and one that
contains German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese designation cards.
Will
the new 5200 IP Phones be available in any colour other that Dark Grey?
There are
no plans to offer the 5200 IP Phones in coloured plastics other than Dark Grey.
The Customisable centre panel that has been incorporated into the design of the
new IP Family is intended to be the vehicle for customising the look of the
phone.
How
are the new 5201 and 5205 IP Phones powered?
Three
powering options are available, giving the user more choice and ensuring Mitel
Networks IP Phones are ready for the industry changes in powering the desktop:
Ethernet
/ AC Wall Power Adapter:
Ideal for situations where it is not practical to make significant changes to
the network or where back-up power is not important to the user. This optional
unit has two sockets, one unpowered LAN input, one powered LAN output.
Spare
Pair Power: (based on IEEE 802.3af standard) This powering option uses the spare pairs of wires of
the Ethernet cable (2 out of the 4 pairs, which are not used for signalling).
The advantage of this option comes from the fact that it is easy to add it into
the existing network and selectively power devices.
Signal
Pair/Phantom Feed: (based on IEEE
802.3af standard) This
powering option sends power on the same pairs of wires that are used for
signalling. This saves one port per user and it does not require separate power
generating equipment, as implemented in the 3100 ICP product family.
When the 5201 and 5205 IP Phones are used on the 3100 ICP, they can
receive their power from the 3100 Control/Expansion unit and no other powering
options are required.
On the 3300 ICP, these IP Phones can be powered by an Ethernet/AC Power
Adapter (parts: 50002070, 50002080 or 50002090) or directly from the 3300 Inline
Power Hub.
Will
the new Mitel Networks 5201 IP Phone and Mitel Networks 5205 IP Phone support
headset operation?
No, there
is no headset support on the 5201 or 5205 IP Phones.
Is
an Ethernet LAN Cable included with the 5201 and 5205 IP Phones?
No, the
Ethernet LAN Cable is not included with the 2 low end IP Phones. It is included
as part of the 5215, 5220, 5230 and 5240 IP Phones. This 3-metre (10 ft.) LAN
Cable can be ordered separately as required.
The Part
Number for the spare LAN Cable is: 51004926
LAN Cable; 3 Metre, Universal
What
is the warranty and repair information for them 5200 Series IP Phones &
Peripherals?
The standard 1 year Warranty applies to all the 5200 IP Family. The 5201
IP Phone is intended as a "throw away" phone. If the 5201 IP Phone is
in Warranty and needs to be returned for repair, it may be replaced rather than
repaired.
Can
the new Mitel Networks 5200 Series IP Phones coexist on the network with the
5000 Series IP Phones?
Yes, both families of IP Phones and appliances can coexist on the same
network with complete transparency across the network of all features and
functionality.
What about the
stand/wall mounts for 5200 Series IP Phones? Are there different Part Numbers?
Yes, the stand/wall mounts are different than the ones used on the 5000
series IP Phones. There is a new Stand specifically for the 5201 IP Phone
because it is a much smaller form-factor than the rest of the IP Desktop
devices.
There is a common Stand / Wall Mount for the 5205/5215/5220/5448 IP PKM.
It is a 2-position tilt stand that can also be used to wall mount the IP Phones.
There is not a separate Stand for the 5240. It is integrated with the 5240
IP Appliance. It can only be used as a stand and does not allow for the 5240 to
be wall mounted.
The 5200 Stands are shipped standard with each of the 5200 Series IP
Phones.
Which
IP Phone do the new 5412 and 5448 IP PKMs connect to?
They connect
only to 5220 IP Phone. When used behind the 3300 ICP two 5448 IP PKMs can be
connected to a 5220, providing up to 96 additional keys.
Do
I have to buy a power adapter separately when I connect the 5412 and 5448 IP
PKMs to a 5220 IP Phone?Yes, power
adapters are necessary. The 24VDC Power Adapters are NOT included in any of the
5412 or 5448 IP PKM Kits. They must be purchased separately. The following are
the part numbers for the required power adapter:
50000690 24VDC
Power Adapter, 120V, 60Hz. - NA
50000685 24VDC
Power Adapter, 240V, 50Hz. - UK
50002790 24VDC Power Adapter, 90-250VAC 50-60Hz.
- EU (Requires mains cable -
51004990)
Is
a separate power adapter necessary if 5240 IP Appliance is powered through LAN?
No, when
5240 IP Appliance is powered through LAN, the power adapter is not required.
Power Adapters are only required to support the 5240 on the 3100 ICP if the
number of IP Phones on the 3100 Controller exceeds 8.
Is
the 5810 PDA application Software included with the 5240 IP Appliance package?
No, the
PDA application software has to be purchased separately. The IrDA module is
built-in, so there is no need to purchase any additional hardware. PDA
Applications Software is available to be ordered under a separate part number or
can be downloaded directly from Mitel On Line.
Is
5240 wall-mountable?
No, the
new design does not allow the phone to be wall mounted.
Are the power adapters shipped with the new 5200 IP Phones?
No, the power adapter for the set has to be purchased separately. Due to
the fact that we are now giving our customers choices in how they want to power
their sets (by providing support for power adapters, spare pair and signal pair
power), power adapters are not included with the set. Please refer to the
Powering Options Table for further information on the various power choices.
Will
the new Mitel Networks 5215 IP Phone, 5220 IP Phone and 5240 IP Appliance
support headset operation? Which headsets can be used?
Yes, the
new IP sets will support headset operation - volume is controlled on the 5200
series set and external amplification is not required with our recommended
headsets. The Plantronics Polaris range has been tested and qualified for use
with the new 5200 series IP telephones. The following are the part numbers for
the headsets supplied by Mitel:
WBCQ0567
Polaris Supra Monaural (over head/head band style)
WBCQ0568

Will the new Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone support
the IrDA module? Is this the same module that is available for 5020 IP Phone?
Yes, the new
Mitel Networks 5220 IP Phone will support a new IrDA module but it is a
different IrDA Module than is currently supported on the 5020 IP Phone. The new
5424 IrDA module for the 5220 IP Phone has the following part number:
50002826 Mitel Networks 5424 IrDA Module
This Part
Number includes the 5810 PDA Application CD as well as the 5424 IrDA Module.
Can two 5310 IP
Conference units be used in a very big conference room (larger than 20' x
30')?
No,
this is strongly not recommended. The
beam-forming algorithm is space and speaker position dependent. Having multiple
units in a room will not make the audio quality any better. In rooms larger than
this, the 5310 IP Conference Unit is not ideal. Mitel will address very large
spaces with later releases of the conference products.
Is a separate power
adapter necessary to power the 5310 IP Conference Unit?
Yes,
the 5310 IP Conference Units need their own 24VDC IP power adapter. Power
adapters are NOT included in the box; they need to be purchased separately. The
following are the part numbers for the required power adapter:
50000690 24VDC
Power Adapter, 120V, 60Hz. - NA
50000685 24VDC
Power Adapter, 240V, 50Hz. - UK
50002790 24VDC Power Adapter, 90-250VAC 50-60Hz.
- EU (Requires mains cable -
51004990)
Does
conference unit need a separate IP address or does it use the same one as the
5220 IP Phone it works with?
The
IP conference units do not need a separate IP address. Because they are
peripherals, 5310 IP Conference Units share the IP address with the 5220 IP
Phone they are attached to.
Is
there a new restyled model of the 5305 IP Office Conference unit for use on the
new 5220 IP Phone?
Mitel
Networks has decided not to introduce a restyled 5305 Side Control for the new
5220 IP Phone. We have addressed this requirement by bringing the pricing of the
5310 IP Conference Unit more in line with the older pricing of the 5305 and
thereby making it an attractive audio conferencing application that can be used
in both the office and the boardroom.
