This red painted Maudslay Mogul 4 wheel Supplies division lorry was fitted with an under floor mounted tail lift, to simplify the collection and delivery of delicate goods from ground level to the lorry body. This particular style of tail lift was generally superseded by the introduction of tail lifts fitted in a frame at the rear of the body. However, this style has come back into fashion , but these days the tail lift tucks under the rear of the body, whereas the model shown here sits vertically at the rear of the body when in travelling mode. The “20” sign denoted that since the vehicle weighed over 3½ tons unladen it was restricted to a maximum speed of 20mph.
