Australian Post Office
Telephone No. 15 - Common Battery (W.E. Type)

Telephone, Common Battery, Wall, (W.E. Type)

A basic C.B. wall phone that was imported from Western Electric in the United States from 1900.  It was the Western Electric Model 312.

This telephone was also used in the UK but was produced by the British Western Electric Co. in Antwerp, Belgium.  The phone was used by the National Telephone Company (NTC) of Britain in large numbers.

When the BPO took over NTC the phone became the GPO Telephone No. 1 and many were left in service.  The BPO then moved to a new design but it was still called the Telephone No.1).
