PRIVATE AUTOMATIC EXCHANGES
No. 5400 TYPE

This unit is similar in general appearance to the No. 5300 type switchboard unit, but whereas the ultimate capacity of the latter is limited to the capacity of the individual unit, the No. 5400 type G.E.C.- P.A.X. can be started with as few as 25 lines and can be extended practically ad lib by adding further units.

A 100-line board comprises two 50-line units of the type illustrated, suitably interconnected.

Where more than 100 lines are connected, group selector equipment is provided in addition to the necessary line units.
As the apparatus is mounted in compact units of convenient size, namely height 6' 1", width 2' 6", depth 1' 8", the whole equipment can be arranged to take up the minimum floor space.

The switching equipment is mounted on a steel framework, enclosed in a floor pattern cabinet of polished hard wood. The glass panelled front of the cabinet is hinged and provided with a lock. A lift out panel is fitted at the rear to give access to the wiring.

Telephones suitable for use with the No. 5400 type P.A.X. are AC ringing types.  Only a twin conductor is required to connect an instrument to the switchboard.
