Introduced in 1956, this set is the GEC 1000 set.  These were fitted with a new induction coil and rocking armature receiver which allowed them to be used on 1000 ohm exchange lines.

The TEL17T was used on British Railways and was also made for telephone Rentals.

The phone in the picture was installed by the Reliance Telephone Company GEC 100 type with a GPO dial label.
