Telart
Elettronica
s.p.a.
was
an
Italian
consumer
electronics
manufacturer that majored in
the
telephone
equipment
sector.
Founded in 1975 in Viareggio as Telart, the company was very soon renamed Telart Electronics s.p.a. and the headquarters relocated to Massarosa, in the province of Lucca, in via di Montramito. The companies objective was to design and market domestic telephone devices in an attempt to make them design objects. It used parts from other manufactures including the circuit boards designed and assembled elsewhere. They also joined with Oriental suppliers to try and bring colour and design to the products.
In
1976,
they produced
telephones
made
of
plastic and then moved
to
materials
such as
marble,
onyx,
leather, wood and
gold
plated metal.
Each
model
was
available
in
different
material/colour
combinations
and
were
designed
primarily
for
export.
From the 1980s onwards, the company also developed business, switchboard and office equipment. In addition to telephones they also produced clocks and later, calculators, which in some cases these were part of the telephone. Although they patented the products and co-operated with international partners, the company was of such a small size that they could not complete in a global market and the company was closed in 1985. The first company logo consisted of the front view of a domestic phone, inside a stylised dial, with the handset reproduced in black, forming the capital letter T. Below the telephone were the words TELART Viareggio. Subsequently, the logo composed of the inscription 'Telart', in black capital letters inserted in white rectangles, on a black background with a white inscription 'Electtronica Viareggio' and 'Made in Italy'. The latter mark became the definitive logo, until the end of the business.
