General description The set is a 24/30V, 500W, D.C. machine and derives its power from a 4-stroke air-cooled engine which is fitted with a flywheel magneto. The engine develops 12 h.p. at 2500 r.p.m.  The D.C. generator is of the 4-pole compound-wound type with a series field winding to enable the generator to be used as a motor for starting the engine.  The output voltage is regulated automatically by the compound field winding.  The armature is mounted on a hollow shaft which fits on to a Morse taper extension of the engine crank shaft. The distant end of the shaft is supported by a self lubricating bronze bearing.
