RAMMER, POWER, P.E.D. (C. H. JOHNSON'S "MAXTAMP")

Application
For the consolidation of backfill in trenches.

General description
This machine is basically similar to the earlier Johnson's "Super" rammer inasmuch that it is powered by an integral petrol engine the firing of which is controlled by a hand lever which operates the magneto.

On the "Maxtamp" however, the fuel and oil are contained in a dual tank fitted to the top of the machine. The outer tank holds the petrol which is fed to the engine via a floatless, jet type carburettor. The smaller inner tank contains the oil which flows to the cylinder in controlled quantities via an adjustable ball valve.

The fuel tank is surmounted by a ring handle and a straight cross handle is incorporated in the cylinder head. The ignition striking handle is fitted to the straight cross handle.

A carrying trolley fitted with a metal tool box is supplied with each rammer.

Dimensions
Height 3ft. 11in., width 1ft. 2in., (cross handle 1ft. 8in.)

Weight
220 lb.

Capital cost
£180.

Remarks
Always disconnect the lead from the spark plug when leaving the machine unattended.  With this machine it is not necessary to drain the fuel from the tank at the end of the day. Petrol can remain in the tank and be topped up as necessary.  The oil feed should be turned off before laying the machine horizontally.
