THRUST BORER, HYDRAULIC
Application
For laying underground cables, wrought-iron pipes, or asbestos-cement ducts
where it is desirable not to disturb expensive pavements or road surfaces.
General description
The device consists of a hydraulic boring machine, hydraulic pump, boring rods,
enlarging heads and various adaptors, all housed in three weatherproof boxes for
ease of transportation. Rods, enlarging heads (up to 8 and 1/2in. diameter) are
provided to give a maximum boring length of 60ft. but 40ft. is generally
considered a suitable length. A safety valve is provided in the hydraulic system
which operates at 2 tons/sq. in. to ensure that the equipment suffers no undue
stress. The boring machine is fitted with a forward, neutral and reverse
position lever, and it is possible to engage any one of three gears in either
direction of thrust.

Remarks

The device is for use in loam or clay free from rock, large stones and tree
