TRACTOR (NEW FORDSON MAJOR) WITH WINCH (BOUGHTON HD F/2)
Application
Primarily to pull mole ploughs.
General description
The tractor is the standard industrial model of the new Fordson Major powered
with a diesel engine. It has six forward and two reverse speeds and is fitted
with hydraulic pump, P.T.O. extension shaft, proof meter and two speed belt
pulley attachment.
A Boughton HDF/2 winch is fitted to the rear of the tractor
and is driven by the P.T.O. extension shaft. The winch is fitted with 210ft. of
1in dia. steel wire rope and land sprags and it has two forward speeds. The line
pull which can be obtained from the winch varies from 5,600lb. at 212ft./min.
with full drum to 22,300lb. at 54ft./min. with bare drum. It is not possible to
provide an anchorage on the tractor to withstand the higher line pulls and in
practice the line pull is limited to 4tons 7cwt. by means of a mechanical fuse.
Dimensions
Width over rear wheels 64in. minimum to 84in. maximum, adjustable in 4in. steps.
Overall length 12ft. 6in. approx.
Weight
tons approx.
Travelling speed
13 m.p.h. approx.
Capital cost
£1050.
Remarks
The tractor may be transported over long distances on a low loading trailer,
e.g. Lolode 4 ton Transporter. Earlier tractors were of the Fordson Major old
type fitted with a Darlington H.D. winch. Some new Fordson Major tractors have
been fitted with a petrol engine and the Darlington winch. The line pulls with
this winch are similar to those shown above.
