Earpiece No. 1

Earpiece made of Bakelite.

Should only be used with a Receiver Bell No. 1A Mark B and a Diaphragm No. 9 or a Receiver Bell No. 1A Mark N.T. 10 and Diaphragm No. 19.

Earpiece No. 2

Earpiece made of Bakelite Specification D1186, Grade 1.

This Earpiece had a 'cutout' or "dimple" on the raised outer edge, to hear the howler if the receiver was left off the phone and placed earpiece down.

20 threads per inch, B.S.W.

The early type had a single hole in the centre, but the Bakelite models (pictured) have 7 small holes instead.

Used with:-

  • Receiver Bell No. 1A (marks C, D & 4001), 2B or 4A (mark 234) and a Diaphragm No. 12 or a Receiver Bell No. 1A mark 4A and Diaphragm No. 12.
  • Receivers, N.T. No.16 (mark 234).
  • Receivers, Watch, No's 1B (marks B, D, and 234) or 2B.
  • Telephones, No's 28 (marks 234, 235 and 237), 78, 86 or 94.

Similar to the Earpiece No. 13, but with slightly different internal dimensions.  See drawing for dimensions.

  • Microtelephone, Hand, N.T. No. 1.
  • Telephone Nos. 28 (Mark N.T. 2 and N.T. 3), 30 or 38 (Mark N.T. 5).

Originally made of Ebonite with a single central hole.

Used with the Telephone, No. 28A.

Used with Receivers, Headgear Nos. 1 and 3, Telephone Nos. 36, 80 and 140, certain Telephones No. 28 and Receivers, Watch No. 2B.

Made from Ebonite originally and then Bakelite X20/380 from 1938.

20 threads per inch, B.S.W.

Similar to the Earpiece No. 2, but with slightly different internal dimensions.  See drawing for dimensions.

Earpiece No. 14

For Telephone, No. 28 (Mark 237).

Plain earpiece, ebonite only, fixed by metal clamping ring.

Note: the Earpiece, No. 2 can replace Earpiece No. 14 plus the clamping ring.

Used on the Receiver, Head Gear, No. 1A (Mark 237).

 

 
Earpiece No. 16

Used on the Receiver, Head Gear, No. 8A.

 

 
Earpiece No. 17

Should only be used with a Receiver and Condensers, Headgear No's 1A & F (Marks 4 and 5) with a Diaphragm No. 24.

Also used on Receiver and Condensers, Headgear No. 3 (Mark 3).

Made from Ebonite to Specification B or moulding black specification D1186 Grade 1.

Earpiece No. 18

Early style earpiece fitted on most Bakelite handsets.

Superseded by Earpiece No. 23.

Should only be used with a Receiver, Inset No. 1L or Receiver, Watch No.6L with a Diaphragm No. 12.

Colours:- Black, Chinese Red, Ivory and Jade Green.

Siemens Brothers called these their Earpiece No. 9A.

Earpiece No. 21

Used with a Receiver Headgear No. 9A.

Used with a Receiver Headgear No. 10 with Diaphragm No. 25 and Receivers, Watch No.7P.

Identified by the recessed "pepper pot" centre.

Should only be used with a Receiver, Inset No. 2P with  a Diaphragm No. 25.

Colours:- Black, Chinese Red, Ivory and Jade Green.

Siemens Brothers called these their Earpiece No. 13A.

Earpiece No. 26A

Plastic screw on earpiece used on Handset No. 3  (fit most 700 type telephones).

Superseded by Earpiece No. 29A.

Earpiece No. 29A

Introduced in mid 1981 this is an Earpiece No. 26 modified to comply with with high voltage requirements for telephones detailed in POR 1065 ABS material.
