DECT - Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications - is available on the iMAGINATION range to deliver high quality, secure and reliable cordless communications.

The DECT radio standard operates between 1880 to 1900 MHz, in 10 frequencies, each with 24 timeslots. Full duplex speech is achieved using timeslot pairing, and a total of 120 channels are available per cell for optimum speech quality and high call capacity. This section of the radio spectrum is reserved exclusively for DECT - no licence is required.

2 DECT systems are available depending on site requirements:
The DCS 3 which supports 3 basestations and 8 handsets.
The DCS 32 supports up to 32 basestations and 60 handsets.

The area of radio coverage created by each basestation is described as a cell, and extended coverage can be created by adding more basestations, positioned so that there is a slight overlap with the next cell. The transmission power of DECT is limited by the ETSI standards, so the radius of a cell is typically up to 300m in free space and up to 50m inside buildings. The actual distance achieved is dependent on the environment where the base station is deployed. The number of basestations required and their optimum location should always be determined by a site survey.

DECT handsets can operate in any cell and a seamless handover will take place when the user moves from one cell to the next, provided there is sufficient overlap of the cells.

DCS 3 System Description
The DCS 3 will drive up to 3 base stations. One base station is integral to the unit, and the other two are connected via a twisted pair cable.

The unit connects to the iMAGINATION using 2 S-busses. For capacity reasons, up to 8 users can operate on this system.

Dimensions: 349 x 296 x 56mm
Power Supply: 230V +/-10%
Average Power consumption: 43VA
Temperature range: 5 C - 40 C

DCS 32 System Description
The DCS 32 will drive up to 32 basestations in its maximum configuration.
The control unit has 2 S-busses for connection to the iMAGINATION, interfaces for 4 basestations and 3 option card slots.
The expansion cabinet can be added to provide a further 4 option card slots and 1 S- bus.
The option cards available are:

S-0 Option card:
2 S busses

Basestation Option card:
4 basestation interfaces + 1 S bus

Configuration method:

  • Add Basestation Option cards to support the number of basestations required.
  • Calculate the number of S-0 Option cards required by taking into consideration the number of S busses available on the control unit, the basestation option cards and the expansion cabinet.
  • A maximum of 16 S-busses can be connected to the unit. This will support 32 users in a non-blocking configuration, and 60 users maximum.

Control unit: 365 x 421 x 113mm
Expansion cabinet: 365 x 421 x 113mm
Power Supply: 230V +10/-14% (Each unit has its own supply)
Average Power consumption: 80VA
Temperature range: 0 C - 40 C

The basestation is the radio transmitter which communicates across the airwaves to the handset. It is linked by a single twisted pair cable to the DCS control unit, and operates with both the DCS3 and DCS32.

The link to the DCS unit provides power and supports a maximum of 4 simultaneous calls. Extra capacity can be achieved by overlaying cells, subject to a minimum separation of 5m between basestations.

The maximum distance from control unit to basestation is 800m using 0.6mm twisted pair cable.

Dimensions: 215x179x61mm

The DECT handset from Hagenuk is called the Office Handy 2. It operates on either the DCS3 or the DCS32 system. It is small and lightweight but highly functional.

It has a 2 line 16 character display, which supports Caller Line Identity and iMAGINATION Alpha Tagging. The battery charge level is indicated on the screen.
