POLICE KIOSK
| ||||||||
|
This is a refurbished police box with original interior fittings,
commissioned in May 1933, as produced to the 1929 design of City Architect
Ebenezer James MacRae to fulfill a modern, practical and technical function,
whilst being styled to fit in with the city’s existing architecture.
It is set up with a display of contemporary artifacts to illustrate how the building was used as a part of the city-wide network to connect police officers and the public. The Police authority in Edinburgh fully kitted out their Kiosks, whilst most authorities just supplied a bench and seat. It is sometimes open to the public, usually at 'Doors Open Days' which is organised by the Scottish Civic Trust. This Kiosk is located at:- Pictures by Damon Wilkinson
