Common Parts - "D" and "S" series Originally parts were numbered X/YYYYY, where X is the particular part on the drawing and YYYYY is the drawing number. In 1939 the way parts were described changed and the part number consisted of "digit / letters / digit(s)". The prefix was the item number of the drawing, of the three letters, the first identifies the series of the drawing, the second and third the section of each series and are also the first two letters of the item and final digit(s) being the diagram number. i.e. 2/DBU/1 = Item 2 on Drawing DBU/1. The first letter of the drawing series will start with a "D" or an "S" and the last two letters are an abbreviation of the part i.e. DBU = BUtton. Some of the abbreviations are listed below:-
