TELEPHONE No. 240 & 1/240


Bakelite table telephone for use with Loudspeaker Amplifier No. 1 in Automatic exchange areas.

Similar to the Telephone No. 232, but this variant has an additional contact set (change-over) fitted to the switch hooks.

Telephone No, 240 was introduced in 1936 and Telephone No. 1/240 in 1937.

The Telephone No. 240 had a flat base whilst the Telephone No. 1/240 was fitted with a drawer in the base.

Terminal nuts are 4BA (Part No. 1/SNU/51).

The frame that supports the switch hooks (Part No. 1/SSW/13), also has terminals and contact springs attached.  The contact springs used are those with two contacts per spring (Springset Part No. 1/SSP/704).

Telephone No. 1/240 includes:-

1 x Coil, Induction No. 20 (Tele 240) and 27 (Tele 1/240).
1 x Part No. 1/SBR/3.

1 x Part No. 1/SCR/1 (Colour).
1 x Part No. 2/SCU/1.
1 x Part No. 1/SPL/321 (Colour).
1 x Part No. 3/SSP/513.
2 x Part No. 1/SWA/72.
1 x Part No. 1/SSW/13.
1 x Telephone No. 164 (Colour).

To be requisitioned separately:-
1 x Cords, Instrument No. 5/09E, 3".
1 x Dial, Automatic, SS, No. 10 or 11.
