1. General
This Instruction gives details relating to the tool wallets Nos. 3 &
4, which are provided for accommodating the kits of tools required for
maintenance work on U.A.X.s and P.A.B.X.s (see A 0043).
2. Wallet Types
Wallets, Tool No. 3 contains the tools for pre-2,000-type apparatus, and
Wallets, Tool, No. 4 the additional tools required for 2,000-type apparatus.
With the introduction of these wallets, "Rolls, Tool, No. 1" will become
obsolete.
3. Description
The wallets are in the shape of a book and are opened by a lightning
fastener, which is fitted along three sides of the gusset. The dimensions of
the wallets, when closed, are:-
Wallets, Tool No. 3 - 12.75in. x 7in. x 1.25in.
Wallets, Tool No. 4 - 9in. x 4in. x 1.25in.4. The tools fit into straps, pockets, or spring clips, which have been
specially designed to accommodate particular tools. The tools accommodated,
and their positions in the wallets, are shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
5. Leather dressing
The wallet should be well dressed with "Dressing, Leather" at intervals. The
dressing, which is obtainable in 4oz. tins, should be applied lightly and
regularly about once every two months, being rubbed well into the outside of
the wallet and not left on the surface. This will preserve the flexibility
of the leather and prevent its becoming dry and brittle.
6. Requisitions
The wallets are obtainable from the Stores Dept. Birmingham as "Wallets,
Tool, No. 3" and "Wallets, Tool, No. 4" and, normally, they are issued
complete with tools; if some of the tools are already held, "Wallets, Tool,
No. 3 (or 4) incomplete" should be requisitioned, together with the
additional tools required to complete the kit.
