In the early 19070's the Post Office introduced the Posts, Jointing in both a large and small size. These were used mainly on housing estates where a number of house feeds would be terminated to a distribution cable inside the post. The post was rectangular in shape and consisted of a Galvanised metal base and a top, which located on the top of the base. The top was secured by a single bolt with a triangular head, which could be released by the use of a Key, Pillar. The post was insulated on the inside and the cables had no support. Cable wires would be joined with crimps (Connectors, Wire Insulated No. 1A). The post is approximately 1000mm full height with the removable top being 250mm high. There were posts were actually called large and small with the width of the small variant being 90mm and the large being 150mm. Manufacturers were allowed to make the top of the cover domed or flat. First installed circa 1966.
