MECHANICAL AIDS DATA SHEET
Platforms, Elevating, No. 2 (Simon Model D 40)

1. Application
For overhead maintenance, tree cutting etc.

2. General description
The platform, which is mounted on a 5 ton chassis/cab, consists of an articulated boom assembly, carrying at the upper end a large insulated cage which is held level at all times by an automatic levelling device. the booms are pivoted on a turntable, which is capable of continuous rotation in either direction. The superstructure on which the turntable is mounted embodies at its front end a pair of quick-acting hydraulically operated self-locking stabilizer jacks. Each jack is adjustable individually by
means of its own control valve to enable the unit to be levelled for operation on uneven surfaces. The platform is operated hydraulically, power being provided by an auxiliary diesel engine mounted at the rear of the superstructure.

A l10V generator can be mounted on brackets provided on the near side of the turntable, and wiring is provided along the booms to the cage to enable electric tools to be used.

The machine provides a range of movement giving the operator a maximum working height of approximately 40 ft. and a maximum working radius of approximately 26 ft.

All movements of the platform are controlled from the cage by levers situated in the upper end of the upper boom. Duplicate controls are provided on the turntable.
