and a fascinating series of photographs depicting the loading of an drawbar
trailer mounted Mobile Telephone Exchange. (These mobile exchanges were used to
supplement existing exchanges). The rear axle of the trailer is removed to
enable the exchange trailer to be hand winched onto the trailer bed.
The
registration numbers chalked on the rear of the Taskers Mobile Exchange were allocated
to Maudslay 6 wheel trucks, which may have been used to tow the trailers on the
road originally. No doubt the GPO felt it safer to move the mobile exchanges on the back of
a semi-trailer than have them towed.
