This is a mobile exchange, which were used as temporary expedience when an
exchange was full.
They were positioned next to the exchange building and the wheels removed.
Stands were then bolted to the
wheel hubs which supported the trailer and steps placed under the side door
entrance.
Most mobile exchanges were made redundant in the 1980's either by an
extension to the
associated exchange or the introduction of System X or System Y locally.
