Teleprinter No. 30A General description
Facilities On private circuits only, the machine may alternatively function as a terminal, receiving messages from a distant teleprinter, Broadcast Unit, Private Automatic Telegraph Branch Exchange or a Message Switcher. The Teleprinter No. 30A cannot be used as a terminal on public telex lines however, as it cannot transmit an 'answer-back' code or message of any kind. It must be decided before installation, whether the Teleprinter No. 30A is to be used as a monitor or terminal, so that it can be wired accordingly. By using a private circuit to connect the Teleprinter No. 30A to the main teleprinter, the two machines may be sited up to 1 km apart, provided that both teleprinters are in the same telex exchange area. Standard telegraph or data codes may be employed as required and will be provided by permanent wiring prior to installation. The Teleprinter No. 30A can operate at all the standard telex and telegraph speeds, the choice of speeds depends on the medium to which it is connected. It can print up to 69 characters or spaces on each line on standard teleprinter paper which can be single-ply or multi-ply paper giving up to 3 under copies. The user can set the line feed for single, one-and-a-half or double spacing. General information Messages can be received at all times provided the power is switched on and there is an adequate supply of paper in the teleprinter. The Teleprinter No. 30A switches on and off automatically at the start and finish of any communication. The teleprinter cover has a hinged lid, giving easy access for paper and ribbon replacement. The lid incorporates a window which makes the copy visible during message reception and provides a cutting edge for message removal. Power for the Teleprinter No. 30A is drawn from a 3-pin mains socket outlet of at least 3-amp rating, provided by the customer. Benefits
