This is designed for testing the fire alarm plant periodically from the fire alarm boxes.

A neatly-finished leather case, with shoulder strap, contains a telescope hand micro-telephone (No. 496 pattern), a key for earthing the line and thus calling the station, an extra receiver No. 551, a condenser which makes it possible for the line to be tested from one box without putting the others out of service, the necessary test battery, etc.

Can be fitted instead with pocket receiver No. 552 which is then used both as receiver and transmitter.
