Boxes, Coin Collecting No. 17

Boxes, Coin Collecting No. 17 is similar to Boxes, Coin Collecting No. 14 except the mechanism has a plug ended flexible cable instead of the normal fixed plug and socket.  A Bellset No. 42 is associated with this box and has a socket mounted to the lower right of the Bellset plate.

Field trailed circa 1949 but not thought to be generally used.

A Mechanism No. 17 is used.

BOX, COIN-COLLECTING, NO. 17 A, COMPLETE
AND ASSOCIATED BELL-SET No.42
(Latch-in type plug & Socket, Coin box)

 
Note: D1000 shall be taken as forming part of this specification.  This  specification to be used solely for the manufacture of the items
required for field trial purposes.

CONSTRUCTION
(i) Box Coin-Collecting No.17A complete, shall consist of the following parts:-
1 x Box, C.C., Part - Mechanism No. 17 - Drawings MS6668 and 6670.
1 x Box, C.C., Part - Container No.8A - Drawing 63934.
1 x Box, C.C., Part - Front No.1  - Drawing 63936.

Box, c.c., Part, Mechanism No.17 (Mark 1)

The construction of this item shall be by modification of Box, C.C., Part Mechanism No.14.

(ii) The following contractors piece-part drawings refer in addition to Drawings MS 6668 and 6670:-
Messrs H.T.A. drawing No's:-
9/28 - Cover for plug
9/30 - Contact block
9/216 - Cable form cover
9/206-210 - Mounting bracket & locking device
9/211-215 - Contact bracket and support etc.

An additional item which is not an included part of a Box, Coin-Collecting, No.17A-complete, but which will form part of the
latch-in type plug & socket, Coin box is a Bell-Set No.42.

The construction of this item to be as follows:-

A Bell-Set No.33 to be obtained from Post Office Factory repaired stock.  Modify in accordance with Drawings MS 6669 and 6670 and Messrs H.T.A. piece part drawing numbers:-
9/29 - Cover for socket
9/31 - Contact Block
9/206-210 - Mounting bracket & locking device.

Details of wire and wiring between Bell Set terminals and the socket, and latch-in type plug and the spring set on the mechanism
to be as specified on P.O. Diagram N 1166.

The plug and socket tags to be numbered on one side of the tag rows in accordance with Drawing MS 6670.

2. MARKINGS
(i) Box, Coin-Collecting No.17A, Complete. Each box shall be marked on the back of container "17A Complete".

(ii) Box, C.C., Part: Mechanism No.17. Each Mechanism shall be marked with the stock list code, manufacturers approved code letters followed by the mark number,
e.g. 17 FH/1.

(iii) Bell-Set, No.42.  Each Bell-Set shall be marked with the stock list code, manufacturers approved code letters followed by the
mark number, e.g. 42 FH/1.
