LANTERN P.A. No. 1

Cast Iron lantern used on GPO Police Posts.

Generally found on Police Kiosks and the Posts P.A. No. 1 which operated on the P.A. 101 and 150 systems.

Sometimes these lanterns were fitted to extension arms attached to buildings.  They can also be seen on buildings in the Royal Naval Docks in Portsmouth.

The lens is a Glass No. 40 - coloured amber.

A Lampholder No. 5 was fitted inside the lantern.

The semicircular top cover is made of gun metal and a Bell, No. 60A can be fitted inside.

The top of the fitting is secured by means of a triangular bolt, which is released by means of a Key, Pillar No. 1.

When a Lantern was not fitted, a blank plate was installed in it's place.  This plate was called a Lantern P.A. No. 1, Dummy.
