Cast Iron lantern used on GPO Police Posts.

Generally found on Police Kiosks and the Posts P.A. No. 1 which operated on the P.A. 101 and 150 systems.

Sometimes these lanterns were fitted to extension arms attached to buildings.  They can also be seen on buildings in the Royal Naval Docks in Portsmouth.

The lens is a Glass No. 40 - coloured amber.

A Lampholder No. 5 was fitted inside the lantern.

The semicircular top cover is made of gun metal and a Bell, No. 60A can be fitted inside.

Access to the lamp is by means of a Key, Pillar.

When a Lantern was not fitted a plate was installed in it's place.  This plate was called a Lantern P.A. No. 1, Dummy.
