Early GEC telephones were made under the name Peel Conner. These phones
are included in the GEC section as GEC consumed the Peel Conner company.

There are many variants of the phone above. Click here on how to identify them.
GEC used this gold transfer or a later variant 'Made in Britain' on their wooden telephones. Most GEC telephones can be dated by looking at the markings on the capacitor. e.g. C54/2 is 1954. Firstly, GEC dealt only with the trade. In many cases the small installers fixed traffolyte labels with their on name on the telephones that they installed. Secondly, up until the First World War GEC had sourced many of its house telephones from Germany. Once the war broke out, there was great antipathy to German products and Britishers were encouraged to 'buy British'.
